Payton M. Wilkins has been affectionately referred to as an "Environmental Justice baby." Growing up in one of America’s most segregated municipalities, he developed a romantic relationship with justice, race, and place. Wilkins' methodology is rooted in practical programming and EJ principles. He’s one of the founding members of HBCU Climate Change Consortium.

Wilkins has been invited to White House forums on the environment and has met with the White House's Intergovernmental Working Group on Environmental Justice on multiple occasions. He is a recipient of the city of Detroit's Spirit of Detroit Award for his work on Environmental Justice. He is currently the Executive Director of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists’ Education Center and a Principal Manager at Mandela, Jones, & Wiggins Consulting Group.
