Kimberly N. Vann, Esq.

Detroit

President and CEO, VIP Mentoring

Since the age of 13, Kimberly N. Vann, Esq. has been dedicated to working with people to help them gain the tools needed to build a strong support system that will follow them throughout their lives.  Coming from a family where hard work was strongly encouraged, Kimberly always knew what was expected of her. Being the first to graduate from high school, she knew college was a priority. Born, raised and educated in Detroit, MI, Kimberly has always been eager to help and be a benefit to others, especially those dealing with difficult times.

Coming from her own difficult circumstances of being raised by a single parent and other family members, Kimberly knew how important it was to create a circle of resources while growing up in Detroit. After graduation from the University of Michigan, Kimberly went to work for the VIP Mentoring, a mentoring program dedicated to providing mentors to the most vulnerable youth to break the cycle of incarceration, recidivism and school dropouts. The program was very dear to her heart since she dealt with caregiver incarceration in high school and understood the need for programs like VIP for families dealing with the loss of a family member and resources. She also attended and graduated from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School while continuing her position as Asst. Program Director.

In 2014, Kimberly and the Michigan Access to College AmeriCorps members created the College and Career Readiness Life After High School program where more than 100 students, mostly young men of color, have graduated high school and went on to college.  Kimberly now serves as the President/CEO at VIP Mentoring and is also a member of Michigan State Bar Association.
