Janasha Higgins

Research, Evaluation, and Data Manager, Marcus Foster Education Institute

Janasha Higgins currently serves as the Research, Evaluation, and Data Manager at Marcus Foster Education Institute (MFEI), which seeks to realize transformative educational equity. Her work focuses on partnering with multiple stakeholders in five San Francisco Bay Area school districts to help ensure that more students have meaningful pathways to college and career options. In doing so, Janasha uses data to partner with high schools, community-based organizations, and postsecondary institutions to implement and improve interventions at the student, school/organizational, and system levels.

Prior to joining MFEI, Janasha served as an Evaluation Specialist at Starfish Family Services where she was able to combine her years of research and community organizing to help inform the development and implementation of a backbone agency in promoting its school readiness initiative. Additionally, in her role with the Good Neighborhoods Initiative Technical Assistance Center, she responded to data requests and provided technical assistance to neighborhoods in order to ensure that Detroit children were safe, healthy, well-educated, and prepared for adulthood opportunities. The Good Neighborhoods Initiative is funded by the Skillman Foundation as a 10-year grassroots community change initiative, while the Technical Assistance Center serves as the capacity building support for Detroit residents and stakeholders as they work to strengthen and improve their neighborhoods.

Janasha received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University, and also holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Community Organizing and Social Policy & Evaluation from the University of Michigan.
