Promise of Place Program Manager

Sheba Rogers serves as the Promise of Place Program Manager for the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, Detroit Office. Sheba helps to build and manage CBMA’s High School Excellence (HSE) Framework in Detroit, while supporting key HSE initiatives across CBMA’s five core cities. Sheba also supports CBMA’s Promise of Place report and activities as well as the development of CBMA’s Literacy Corps and other academic and social enrichment programs offered at CBMA’s partner schools.

A proud Detroit native, Sheba comes to the CBMA team with ten years of experience in the field of educational research, programming, and advocacy for poor children and children of color.  Prior to joining CBMA, Sheba worked with the Children’s Defense Fund as an Education Policy Associate and as the Director of Michigan Freedom Schools Expansion. Sheba served as CDF’s sole program ambassador in Detroit and helped lead expansion and build strategic partnerships for the Freedom Schools program. In her role with CDF’s national policy team Sheba helped to co-lead a partnership with school superintendents to support strategic efforts to reduce school suspensions and improve discipline reform in five school districts across the nation. Sheba has served in a number of research capacities at Northwestern University School of Education and Social Policy, University of Michigan School of Education, and Harvard Graduate School of Education. 

Sheba graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in African American Studies. She also holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard University.
