New York City

Senior Communications Consultant

Janet A. Dickerson joined the CBMA team as Senior Communications Consultant in January 2015 to help lead its official launch from the Open Society Foundations into an independent entity. In this role she continues to work closely with the VP of Communications and the broader communications team to facilitate and promote strategic PR and media initiatives that elevate CBMA’s narrative change work, as well as the work of the broader Black Male Achievement network and movement.

As a strategic communications and media relations specialist, Dickerson possesses more than a decade of experience driving multi-channel PR and media campaigns. She began her career in government politics as Press Officer for now-U.S. Senator Cory Booker while he was Mayor of Newark, New Jersey’s largest city. Dickerson served as Deputy Press Secretary on former New York City Comptroller William Thompson’s 2009 mayoral campaign against Michael Bloomberg. From there, she ventured into the non-profit & advocacy sector by becoming Press Secretary for national research and action institute PolicyLink, and ultimately going on to launch her own social impact consulting group Human Impact Solutions (Formerly Pixel Prose Media) in 2010. Dickerson is also Co-Founder of #HarlemDemoDay, a NYC startup event geared towards connecting entrepreneurs of color with industry investors, business resources and potential funding opportunities.

Born and raised in the New York City-area, Dickerson received a Bachelor’s in Journalism from Temple University, and now resides with her family in New Jersey.
