Garrett Richardson

New York City

Manager, Membership Services

Garrett Richardson has committed his life’s work to making demonstrative improvements to the life outcomes of youth from historically underserved communities, especially boys and young men of color. As an education consultant with over a decade of experience improving key performance indicators at persistently struggling schools in cities across the Mid-Atlantic including New York City and Philadelphia. Garrett brings a wealth of knowledge around youth engagement and positive youth development to the team. During his time in K-12 education, Garrett has designed various programs and campaigns to support students with the greatest need, earning the public endorsements from some of New York State’s Education Department’s highest ranking members.

He designed the My Brother’s Keeper Peer Mentoring Program in Queens, NY which in two years matched 100 boys to mentors and kept nearly 80% of its students on track to graduate on time. The experience led him to start his own consultant agency, Bridging The Gap, Inc. Bridging The Gap (BTG) was created to support sustainable and effective practices on behalf of school systems and community based organizations in order to improve key outcomes for young adults such as workforce readiness and leadership skills. His clients include the New York City Department of Education, the NYC Office of the Mayor and Nassau County’s GEAR UP Program.

In addition to his programing background, Garrett will be incorporating his brand marketing and campaigning experience to his new role as CBMA’s Promise of Place manager in New York City. Garrett has built national membership recruitment campaigns for brands such as the Human Rights Campaign. He has developed diverse membership experiences and engagement opportunities for national staff and company stakeholders for brands such as Nike and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Garrett looks forward to sharing his insights on youth development, membership engagement and brand marketing with his CBMA family and its outstanding membership pool in order to help them develop deep, meaningful connections with young people, each other and their communities. Outside of work, Garrett enjoys traveling to as many beaches as humanly possible with his fiancée, going for walks with his rescue dog named Ziggy, and debating anyone on why the game of soccer is the greatest sport in the world!
